Internationally renowned for the dazzling level of performing artistry and unique sense of theatricality, The Dell'Arte Company is also acclaimed for its teaching residencies in physical performance styles.
A Residency With The Dell'Arte Company
The Dell'Arte Company is an internationally renowned touring theatre ensemble with an over 30-year history of collaboration in original works of theatre. They have developed a unique contemporary acting approach in which body, voice, and point of view celebrate the work of the actor/creator.
The Company has developed an equal reputation for its residency work and its members are in demand as master teachers and consultants in theatres and schools all over the world. Members of the Company are experienced teachers, directors and actors who have developed their methodology over the past three decades of performing together, as well as at The Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre, where they are the core faculty and teach when not on tour.
Residency activities may include performances as well as workshops and master classes and can be from one day to several weeks. The company specializes in the art of physical performance and their instructional goals include not only the teaching of specific styles, but the development of the creative performer.
The Advantage of A Residency
A residency with the Dell'Arte Company offers professional and educational theatres or community groups in-depth contact with one of America's top ensembles. Dell'Arte has consistently been recognized for excellence by the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund, the James Irvine Foundation, the PEW Charitable Trusts/TCG, the Fox Foundation, and numerous national foundations. The company has represented the United States at festivals in Europe, Canada and South America and has a history of over 30 years of acclaimed work.
Residency participants are able to take advantage of the company's presence to learn new skills, derive new inspiration for their own work, and to experience the company's performing and teaching philosophy at a personal level. A residency can deeper the sponsor's connection with their community and provide additional revenue.

The Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre is the only institution in the United States offering a full-time professional training program in physical theatre. The program is led by master teachers in the field of physical theatre and is designed for those who have made a commitment to acting as their profession. Over the past 35 years, we have trained performers from throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the U.S. In addition, the school offers summer workshops, the International Institute of Physical Theatre, and the Dell'Arte Abroad Program, with residencies in Bali.
The underlying premise of the Dell'Arte training is that the art of the theatre is centered in the work of the creative actor, whose imaginative command of space, gesture, dynamics, and an articulate body/voice, gives expression to passions, thoughts, feelings and relationships. Our program expands the actor's physical range and develops a physical imagination. In addition, students are encouraged to articulate their own vision of the theatre and their relation to contemporary theatre practice, the audience, and the community.
"Outstanding, talented and devoted faculty--a superb national and international reputation."
-- National Association of Schools of Theatre
"Their singular approach to theatre, energy, imagination and inspiration were a boon to the students and the program as a whole. Their remarkable talents as individuals and as an ensemble of teachers and performers proved a breath of fresh air and excitement in the often staid environment of theatre education."
-- Lawrence Hecht Former Conservatory Director American Conservatory Theatre San Francisco, CA
"It is so vital for students of theatre to learn from professionals in the field who are doing the work. The performance and teaching work of The Dell'Arte Company is wonderfully unique and exciting.
