James Hildebrandt
Technical Directort

James Hildebrandt was born and raised in the midwest, just outside Chicago, Illinois. He studied painting and lithography at Harper College and later at the University of Minnesota at the Minneapolis campus. During that time he volunteered at May Day parades building puppets and props for The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater. Seeing the amazing world of puppetry, it inspired him to delve into creating his own puppet theater, Maggotry Shadow Puppet Theater. He collaborated with other artists and performed throughout the Twin Cities for two years performing shadow plays.
In spring of 2013 he taught shadow puppet workshops at 3 local schools and was the artist/teacher at Blue Lake Elementary School. Summer of 2013 he created a 34 ft long dragon puppet wtih children, participating in Pageant on the Plaza, a performance camp for kids. In the fall he helped organize with The Ink People and Bandamonium, a Day of the Dead event/street parade in Eureka and created 2 giant skeleton puppets. Most recently in 2014 he has collaborated and performed as a member with Four on the Floor productions creating shadow, toy and bunraku puppets for The Well at the Worlds End, three heroine stories as part of the family series at the Arcata Playhouse. Currently he is teaching shadow puppetry at 4 local schools and was technical director Elisabeth's Book at Dell’ Arte International.
